“The country has failed to update the LPG policy, making it outmoded,” he added.
He also called for an all inclusive party committee to look at the LPG shortage issue from the national perspective to make available the commodity to the consuming publics.
Dr Donkor was speaking a forum organized by the Research and Advocacy Platform, a political advocacy group on improving LPG Supply in Accra.
He said the shortage of gas should also be viewed from the angle of change where more people have now developed the interest in the usage of gas.
He noted that the commodity has now become a transportation fuel for vehicles, adding that government pays GH 1,500 a month as subsidy and for vehicles to be using the commodity now than there was going to be a problem.
He called on the media to pull up the policy issue and pursue the appropriate authority task to come out with a new policy to address the shortage.
Mr Alex Mould, Executive Director of NPA said government was investing more resources in the improvement of the LPG infrastructure to increase the supply of the commodity.
He also appealed to the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority to register vehicles who have converted to gas usage to be able to examine them for safety reasons.
He said statistics indicated that gas usage across the ten regions as follows Greater Accra, 39 percent, 19 percent Ashanti region, 11 Western Region, 9 percent Central region, 6.7 Volta Region while the three Northern Regions represent, 3 percent, noting that the commodity would arise in some few weeks as a short term plan.
Mr Samuel Okuzeto Ablakwa, Deputy Minister of Information said President Mills would meet cabinet tomorrow to take critical decision on the issue.
