Samia reclaims family honour

The torch of internal democracy of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) glowed in a seemingly dark political landscape when over 2,000 delegates endorsed Samia Nkrumah, Member of Parliament for Jomoro, as the new national chairman of the party.
Delegates were drenched in showers of ecstasy as they sang and danced at the auditorium of Ghana international trade fair pavilion E to herald the Electoral Commission announcement that the cute humble politician had won the chairmanship.
Ms Nkrumah in victory speech thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in her and called on all party structures and people to work in moving the party to its rightful place in the Ghanaian political domain.
She said it was important to protect the unity and solidarity among members of the party, since that was what the founder, her father, sought for as a vehicle to promote the development of Ghana.
She also called on party members to impact and participate in the lifting of the party, saying the next few years would not be easy, seeing a new generation taken over the leadership mantle.
She also urged the youths of the party to channel their energies to productive use, since the focus would be on their constituencies with accountability and transparency.
”Within some few weeks to come, we will be drawing plans for activities that will benefit all members,” she added.
She assured delegates that there would a hot line of communication contact between them and the national office to address their challenges.
Ms Nkrumah thanked the delegates for honouring Dr Kwame Nkrumah by electing her to that position of the party.
She noted that history has been made in the political circles of the country by electing three women to the positions of the National Chairman, 1st and 2nd Vice Chairpersons.
Professor Badu Akosah, leading member of the party, in an interview, said it does not always take experience to win in life.
He expressed the hope that the new National Chairman would need “everybody” for a preparatory journey to wrest power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) indicating that this would make every constituency come alive.
Mr Ladi Nylander, the outdone National Chairman, said, “The voice of the people is the voice of God.”
He urged party members to support the new chairman in the discharge of her duties to promote the interest of the party.
Other contestants congratulated her for winning the chairmanship position.
