President Mills appeals to Ghanaians to talk responsibly

President John Evans Atta Mills on Monday appealed to Ghanaians to talk responsibly and use temperate language and that no amount of insults would “turn fraud into truth.”
"We have to watch our language. What lessons do we want the younger generation to learn."
President Mills made the appeal when answering questions from Senior Journalists and Editors during the Third Annual Media Encounter since he assumed office in 2009, at the Osu Castle, Accra.
The venue, a big alley of the Castle, was decorated with national colours of red, yellow and green with strip of black supposedly the black star in the Ghana Flag.
In addition, the chairs have been banded with the same national colours to show the Government’s determination to build the Better Ghana NDC promised Ghanaians.
In front of the chairs where President Mills stood to address the media, was a background showing the President smiling alongside pictures showing development projects started during his term or being continued from where the previous administration's tenure of office ended.
On the background was an inscription: “Still Building a Better Ghana.”
President Mills answered questions on his health, the economy, STX Housing Project, achievements for 2011 as Action Year, Mr Alfred Agbesi Wayome's payment of judgment debt, corruption, campaign message for Election 2012, recent trip to the US, the cocaine turning into Sodium Bicarbonate issue and his relationship with former President Jerry John Rawlings.
President Mills, who stood on his feet during the one hour 15 minutes encounter, when asked about his health, said “I have an excellent physician, the Almighty God".
The format for this year's encounter whereby each journalist was permitted to ask a question without a follow-up due to the limited time factor did not change.
The President noted that during 2011, Government was able to provide school infrastructure for pupils studying under trees, provision of potable water and increased accessibility to electricity from 54 per cent to 72 per cent.
He said the country had recorded single digit inflation and highest economic growth rate in 2011.
On the establishment of two new universities in the Volta and Brong Ahafo Regions, President Mills said Parliament had given approval for work to commence on them while Government had provided accommodation for the administrative staff of the new proposed university at Ho.
President Mills said the NDC should be given another a second chance during Election 2012, because  the Government had provided social amenities, ensured peace and stability and economic growth for Ghanaians.
He acknowledged the immense contribution of the media to national development and urged them to continue to support the Government for a sustainable peace.
